Outreach Projects and Activities

CFP and its members develop and integrate various activities intended to raise public awareness of physics and science in general.

Examples of these activities include public presentations by research staff, participation at the open days organized by the University of Porto and by the Faculty of Sciences, and also the organization of a summer school in physics for high school students.

Escola de Física (Summer School of Physics)

"Escola de Física" is a summer school for junior physicists, intended for 10th and 11th grade high school students. The participants are enrolled in research projects supervised by graduate students and attend courses and seminars on advanced topics in physics.

The school was launched by CFP and by the Junior University of Porto (UJR) in 2005 and it is organized in collaboration with the Physics Department and the other research units therein (CLOQ, IFIMUP, INESC). It takes place every year at the Physics Department during the first week of September.

The webpage of the school, including a detailed description of all activities and its extended press coverage, is available here.

Other outreach activities

CFP participates actively in the University's and Faculty of Sciences' open days. This includes public seminars and (computer) demonstrations of ongoing research.

Research staff also delivers a considerable number of public seminars at local high-schools and in other activities to promote the public awareness of science. A list of public seminars and activities can be found here and under "Other Publications" in the Publications section.
