Announcement

This is the first in a series of meetings which aim to encourage interactions and collaborations between researchers working in cosmology and related areas in Portugal and Spain. Researchers in other countries are also most welcome. A second meeting will take place in Spain in 2007.

The format of the meetings is broadly inspired by the highly successful UK cosmology meetings (which have been running for more than a decade). The meetings are informal, and there is no registration fee. There are also no invited speakers, parallel sessions, or posters. Blackboard talks are encouraged. All the time slots are of equal length (typically 20 to 30 minutes). In addition to the talks, there can also be time for guided discussions, particularly if there are several requests for talks on a common "hot" topic.

Unlike most conferences and workshops, where speakers typically present finished pieces of work, these meetings are designed to encourage the presentation of work in progress (or even being started or planned). In this way the opportunities for constructive feedback are enhanced, and in the long term this will lead to the development of productive collaborations. Moreover, the meetings will not be restricted to a single focused topic, but are open to cosmologists in the broadest sense, from theoretical particle physics to observational astrophysics. Stimulating interactions between theorists and observers is a particular concern of the organizers, and will be the key factor for the success of the meetings.

The meeting will last two full days, starting at 9am on Friday 1st and finishing around 6pm on Saturday 2nd. Participants should, in principle arrive, in Porto on Thursday (November 30th) and leave on Sunday (December 3rd).

Basic information about finding the Physics Department and CFP is available here.

Financial Support

Financial support (covering the accommodation and all or part of the travelling expenses) is available, primarily for young researchers from Spain and Portugal. Other particpants might also occasionally be supported. The organizers can also reserve accommodation at a substantial discount.

IMPORTANT: Those wishing to speak, to reserve accommodation or to request financial support must register by October 15. Those who only want to attend and can make their own arrangements can register until November 15.

Financial support is provided by Centro de Física do Porto and Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia.
