I am specially interested in condensed matter physics systems, low-dimensional quantum phenomena and statistical physics. During my PhD at Porto University (Portugal), I have focused on the study of extended topological defects (typically, eight-, seven- and five-sided rings of carbon atoms), recently observed both at the edges and at the bulk of graphene. I have both studied the electronic structure and equilibrium thermodynamic properties of graphene zigzag ribbons whose edges were reconstructed with these kinds of defects, as well as, the transport properties of bulk graphene with periodic defect lines made up of topological defects.
